Announces No New Daily COVID Infections for First Time Since August 25, 2020; Also Reports No New COVID Deaths Since June 19 & No New Hospitalizations Overnight
Post Date:06/29/2021 10:28 am

Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy provided the latest report on the county’s progress on administering and distributing vaccines and controlling the spread of the Coronavirus. As of yesterday, 64.7% of Albany County’s population has received at least the first dose, and 59.9% has been fully vaccinated. The first dose vaccination rate for the county’s 18+ population is now up to 75.4%. More information on vaccination rates can be found at the New York State COVID-19 Vaccine Tracker at the link here.

County Executive McCoy announced that the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Albany County remains at 24,418 to date, with no additional infections being identified since yesterday. Please note that our overall case count will fluctuate as CommCare records are transferred in and out of the county. Albany County’s most recent seven-day average of percent positive rates is up to 0.3%, and the Capital Region’s rate is still at 0.3%.

There are now 14 active cases in the county, down from 16 yesterday. The number of people under mandatory quarantine has decreased to 38 from 52. So far, 80,069 people have completed quarantine. Of those who completed quarantine, 24,404 of them had tested positive for the virus and recovered, an increase of 2 recoveries.

The County Executive reported that there were no new hospitalizations since yesterday, and 4 county residents are now hospitalized from the virus – a net decrease of 1. There remain 3 patients currently in ICU’s, unchanged from yesterday. There are no new COVID deaths to report, and the death toll for Albany County still stands at 386 since the outbreak began.

“It’s important to take stock of how far we’ve come as a community by working together and doing our part in rolling up our sleeves and getting the COVID shot. I’m happy to report that for the first time in roughly ten months, there wasn’t a single new infection identified in Albany County in the last 24 hours. On top of that, it’s another day we don’t have to report any new hospitalizations or deaths because of this virus,” said County Executive McCoy.

“This comes as a new study shows that the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines could protect vaccinated individuals for years into the future, meaning most people likely won’t need boosters anytime soon. However, it’s still not fully understood how COVID variants and areas around the country and the world with low vaccinations rates could impact herd immunity. The best way to protect yourself and loved ones continues to be getting the shot,” he continued.
