Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy provided the latest report on the county’s progress on vaccinations and controlling the spread of the Coronavirus. As of yesterday, 68.2% of Albany County’s population has received at least the first dose, and 62.9% has been fully vaccinated. The first dose vaccination rate for the county’s 18+ population is now up to 79%. More information on vaccination rates can be found at the New York State COVID-19 Vaccine Tracker at the link here.

County Executive McCoy announced that the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Albany County is now at 25,770 to date, with 78 new positive cases identified since yesterday. The county’s five-day average of new daily positive cases is now up to 59.8. Please note that our overall case count will fluctuate as CommCare records are transferred in and out of the county. Albany County’s most recent seven-day average of percent positive rates is 4.5%, and the Capital Region’s rate is now up to 4.7%.

Among the new cases of COVID identified in the county, 25 had close contacts to positive cases, five reported traveling out of state, 40 did not have clear sources of infection at this time, and eight are healthcare workers or residents of congregate living settings. There are now 411 active cases in the county, up from 398 since yesterday. The number of people under mandatory quarantine decreased to 676 from 684. So far, 82,776 people have completed quarantine to date. Of those who completed quarantine, 25,359 of them had tested positive and recovered – an increase of 63 additional recoveries.

The County Executive reported that there were two new hospitalizations since yesterday, and 17 county residents are now hospitalized with the virus. There are now three patients currently in ICU’s, up from two yesterday. Unfortunately, there was one new COVID death to report – a woman in her 80’s. The death toll for Albany County now stands at 389 since the outbreak began.

“Sadly, we’ve lost another Albany County resident to the virus and I continue to remind everyone that COVID-19 has not gone away; the delta variant is more contagious and continues to prove deadly to some members of our community,” said County Executive McCoy. “Please encourage those who you know are not vaccinated to get a shot, and for those who have, follow the CDC guidelines when indoors by masking and practicing the safety measures we have been stressing for over a year – cough into your arm and wash your hands frequently.”
