Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy today announced that the county-owned and operated Shaker Place Rehabilitation and Nursing Center has been ranked among the 2022 list of “Best Nursing Homes in the State of New York” by Newsweek Magazine and Statista, Inc. based on an independent analysis. The rankings are conducted on an annual basis for the 25 states with the highest populations, including New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.

“While Shaker Place and our incredible staff hold themselves to the highest standards of performance and care each and every day, the last 20 months dealing with the dangers of COVID has forced us to work even harder to protect our residents. I couldn’t be more proud of how everyone has stepped up, which has helped put us in the top 50 of more than 600 other nursing homes in the entire state. This is truly an incredible achievement,” said County Executive McCoy.

“Albany County’s nursing facility has undergone an incredible transformation since I was first elected, as we’ve invested millions to make it better than ever and improve the lives of those who call it home. I’m thrilled that it’s not just our residents and their families who are noticing everything we’ve accomplished together,” he continued.

“The residents of Shaker Place have worked hard and contributed to their communities their entire lives, and one of the most important things we can do in government is ensure that they have a place where they can live in comfort and with dignity, spend time with their families and feel safe. That’s what we’re committed to, and I want to thank County Executive McCoy for always providing us with the tools and the resources we need to do just that,” said Shaker Place Executive Director Larry Slatky.

The best nursing homes are selected based on three criteria: Performance data from the US Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), a reputation survey based on thousands of surveys conducted by medical professionals from nursing homes, and the facility’s overall response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

This distinction from Newsweek comes on the heels of the US Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services improved the ratings of Shaker Place in September, now giving the facility five stars for “Quality Measures” and four stars for “Overall Quality.
