Every day, twenty-two veterans across the United States take their own lives. In order to help bring attention to that sad reality, Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy and the Albany County Veteran Services Bureau is cosponsoring the “22 A Day Benefit Walk/Run” with the Military Family Foundation.

The 2.2-mile walk and run is this Sunday, September 22 at Lawson Lake County Park, 293 Lawson Lake Rd, Feura Bush, NY 12067. It is scheduled to kick off at 2pm, and the event will include a variety of suicide prevention and mental health vendors, along with food and activities for the whole family.

“As an Army veteran who served overseas and personally knows the pain of losing a friend and fellow serviceman to suicide, I have committed my administration to getting those who have fought for our country the help they need as they return to civilian life,” said Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy.

“Veterans are twice as likely to take their own lives as the general population, which is why our Veteran Services Bureau is on the front lines of this issue, while helping to raise awareness with this event. I hope the public and the media will join us to help make it an even more memorable experience,” he continued.

Registration for the benefit walk/run can be found at the below link, or can be done in person the day of the event. For further information please contact Tracy DuShane, Military Family Foundation at TDuShane@militaryfamilyfoundation.org or call (518) 653-1895.
