Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy today provided the latest update on the county’s progress on vaccinations and controlling the spread of the Coronavirus. As of yesterday, 75.2% of all Albany County residents have received at least the first dose of the vaccine, and 67.5% have been fully vaccinated. The first dose vaccination rate for the county’s 18+ population is now up to 84.7%. More information on vaccination rates around the state can be found at the New York State COVID-19 Vaccine Tracker at the link here.
County Executive McCoy announced that the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Albany County is now at 33,757 to date, with 188 new positive cases identified since yesterday. The county’s five-day average of new daily positive cases is now up to 115.6. Please note that our overall case count will fluctuate as CommCare records are transferred in and out of the county. Albany County’s most recent seven-day average of percent positive rate is still 5.0% and the Capital Region’s average rate is now 7.0%.
There are now 649 active cases in the county, up from 611 yesterday. The number of people under mandatory quarantine increased to 1,251 from 1,116. So far 104,828 people have completed quarantine to date. Of those who completed quarantine, 33,108 of them had tested positive and recovered – an increase of 137 additional recoveries.
County Executive McCoy reported that there were four new hospitalizations since yesterday, and there are a total of 39 county residents currently hospitalized with the Coronavirus. Four of those hospital patients are in ICU’s, unchanged from yesterday. Unfortunately, there is one new COVID death to report – a man in his 80’s. The death toll for Albany County now stands at 441 since the outbreak began.
“On a day when families are gathering together, it’s sad that another Albany County resident has died of COVID-19. I send my sympathy to his family,” said County Executive McCoy. “I had hoped that the virus would have been over by now and that as families and friends share a Thanksgiving meal, they wouldn’t have to worry about COVID-19. That is still not the case when looking at the dramatic number of new positive cases reported today. Do the right thing. Please protect those you love by following the guidelines. When inside, it’s best to wear a mask, especially if anyone with you is unvaccinated. Stay six feet apart, cough and sneeze into your arm and encourage anyone who hasn’t been vaccinated to get a shot. Those who are vaccinated should get a booster if it’s been six months since that last shot. This is the beginning of the holiday season. We all need to do whatever we can to make sure it’s safe for everyone and to stop the spread of COVID-19.”
