Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy today provided the latest update on the county’s progress on vaccinations and controlling the spread of the Coronavirus. As of yesterday, 76.3% of all Albany County residents have received at least the first dose of the vaccine, and 68.9% have been fully vaccinated. The first dose vaccination rate for the county’s 18+ population is now up to 85.4%. More information on vaccination rates around the state can be found at the New York State COVID-19 Vaccine Tracker at the link here.

County Executive McCoy announced that the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Albany County is now at 36,200 to date, with 192 new positive cases identified since yesterday. The county’s five-day average of new daily positive cases is now up to 191.6. Please note that our overall case count will fluctuate as CommCare records are transferred in and out of the county. Albany County’s most recent seven-day average of cases per 100,00 is 52.7 and the Capital Region’s average of cases per 100,000 is 63.9.

There are now 633 active cases in Albany County, down from 708 yesterday. The number of people under mandatory quarantine decreased to 1,282 from 1,347. Of those who have completed quarantine to date, 35,567 of them had tested positive and recovered – an increase of 255 additional recoveries.

County Executive McCoy reported that there were three new hospitalizations since yesterday, and there are 51 county residents currently hospitalized with the Coronavirus. Ten of those hospital patients are now in ICU’s, unchanged from yesterday. There are no new COVID deaths to report, and the death toll for Albany County still stands at 456 since the outbreak began.

“The new number of positive cases reported today is again in the triple digits as they have been since late last month,” said Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy. “We can lower those numbers by following what we know works- getting vaccinations, wearing masks when around others, especially indoors, coughing/sneezing into our arms, maintaining social distancing and washing our hands frequently. The new statewide masking and vaccination requirements announced by Governor Hochul that take effect Monday will help us achieve this as more people gather inside during the winter months and should result in fewer hospitalizations and deaths from the virus.”
