Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy today announced that the Executive Director of the county-owned and operated Shaker Place Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Larry Slatky, has officially been inducted into the American College of Health Care Administrators Hall of Fame as a member of the inaugural class. The ACHCA Hall of Fame was created to recognize those who have made notable and unique impacts on the American College of Health Care Administrators and the field of long-term care. The formal induction took place at the ACHCA 2022 Convocation & Expo in New Orleans, Louisiana on March 21-24.
“I want to personally congratulate Executive Director Slatky for this well-deserved honor and thank him for his many years of unwavering commitment to Shaker Place. With him at the helm and through the dedicated service of our staff, we have been able to weather the storm of COVID-19 while also improving the care we provide to our residents who call our facility home,” said County Executive McCoy.
“Not only has Shaker Place’s quality ratings from US Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services as well as the American Health Care Association dramatically improved over the years, our facility was also ranked among the best nursing homes in the entire state by Newsweek Magazine last year. This latest recognition is another example of Larry’s outstanding leadership that brings pride to Albany County,” he continued.
Only those who have been members of the college for at least 15 years and achieved the status of Fellow are eligible for the prestigious honor of being inducted into the ACHCA Hall of Fame. Additionally, those individuals must have served the American College of Health Care Administrators at either the National or Chapter level in leadership roles to be considered for induction. No more than five candidates are eligible to be selected to join the Hall of Fame each year.
“It is truly an honor to be inducted into the American College of Health Care Administrators Hall of Fame. Serving those in need and improving care for long-term residents has always been a passion of mine, but to be recognized by an institution that has done so much to further the long-term care field is a proud moment for me. However, the work I do each day that earned me my induction could not have been possible without the healthcare professionals, social workers and everyone else who allow our facilities to operate seemingly with ease each day,” said Shaker Place Executive Director Larry Slatky.
In October 2021, County Executive McCoy announced that Shaker Place Rehabilitation and Nursing Center had been ranked 43rd of more than 600 facilities among the 2022 list of “Best Nursing Homes in the State of New York” by Newsweek Magazine and Statista, Inc. based on an independent analysis. The rankings are conducted on an annual basis for the 25 states with the highest populations, including New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Prior to that, the U.S. Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) improved the ratings of Shaker Place Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in September, giving the county-owned and operated facility five stars for “Quality Measures” and four stars for “Overall Quality. In 2020 it was announced that Shaker Place had been awarded with the Silver Achievement in Quality Award from the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL), after earning the Bronze Quality Award in 2018.
