Outfitting School Buses in a Local District with Cameras/Enforcement to Keep Kids Safe
How many times have you seen someone drive right by a school bus that’s stopped and has its lights flashing and stop arm extended? Not only did that driver break the law but that action could have been deadly. Albany County has launched a new safety initiative to stop this and change the illegal behavior of drivers.
Albany Executive Daniel P. McCoy will unveil new safety technology installed in buses in the South Colonie Central School District that will go live shortly and begin sending tickets to those who don’t stop when the stop-arm on the bus indicates they should.
There will be an opportunity to see the equipment, hear about the education and enforcement timeline and find out more about this program on Thursday, September 22 at 10:15am outside Colonie Central High School, 1 Raider Blvd.
County Executive McCoy will be joined by District Superintendent Dr. David Perry, BusPatrol CEO and Founder Jean Souliere, Albany County legislators, Colonie Supervisor Peter Crummey, Village of Colonie Mayor Tom Tobin, New York Association for Pupil Transportation Executive Director David Christopher, teachers, students and parents.
