“We’ve come a long way as a state in just the last year alone, and we continue to see signs of improvement; however, there are still challenges to overcome. As Governor Kathy Hochul begins her first full term as Governor, I am encouraged by the plans she outlined in her State of the State today to tackle issues like global warming and sustainability through the EmPower Plus program, along with public safety and the ongoing mental health and addiction crises. 

“The worst of the pandemic may be over, but we are still feeling its lingering effects. Mental health issues have only gotten worse, and the proposed expansion of both access to treatment services and supportive housing for individuals with serious mental illnesses is welcome news. Additionally, hardworking residents continue to feel the squeeze of inflation and supply chain disruptions, and we must maintain our focus on making New York a more affordable place to live and raise a family.
