County Executive McCoy Announces That Albany County Is Initiating the Development of a Multimodal Resiliency Plan for The Broadway/Route 32 Corridor

Albany County Is Assembling a Study Advisory Committee to Oversee the Process

Post Date:03/22/2024 10:08 am

Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy announced that Albany County has partnered with the Capital Region Transportation Council (CRTC) and the Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) to develop a Multimodal Resiliency Plan for the Broadway/Route 32 corridor from Clinton Avenue in City of Albany to 25th Street in the City of Watervliet.

This corridor is vital to the region as it connects several destinations, downtowns, and neighborhoods between Albany and Watervliet and carries the Capital District Transportation Authority’s (CDTA) Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Blue Line.

This Plan will identify and evaluate design concepts that increase Broadway’s resilience to climate change by integrating natural systems and transportation systems to manage stormwater, improve air quality, reduce heat stress, and expand the interconnectivity of active transportation and transit to promote viable low-carbon transportation choices.

The recently completed Climate Resiliency Plan identified this corridor as vulnerable to both flooding and heat stress, both of which are anticipated as the impacts of climate change intensify.

To oversee this process, a Study Advisory Committee has been assembled to facilitate intermunicipal and intergovernmental collaboration. This study will be funded by a Capital District Planning Commission grant in the amount of $100,000, with a County providing $10,000 in matching funds.
