Public Information Meeting and Comment Period for the Albany County Hazard Mitigation Plan Update

Meeting on Hazard Mitigation Plan Update to be Held on September 25

Post Date:09/23/2024

Albany County received Hazard Mitigation Grant Program funding from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to complete an update to the County’s 2018 Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan (HMP). A Hazard Mitigation Plan is a way to identify natural hazards the County faces, evaluate people and property at risk, and create strategies to minimize damages and injuries in the long term.

Jurisdictions must update their hazard mitigation plans and resubmit them for FEMA approval every five years. An updated plan allows the County, Cities, Towns, and Villages to remain eligible to apply for funding from FEMA for hazard mitigation projects. Albany County will focus on flood, drought, severe storms, extreme temperatures, and landslides in the plan update.

Public Information Meetings will be held on September 25, 2024, from 12Noon-1:00PM and from 5:00-6:00PM:

The draft plan is posted at the following link: AlbanyCountyNY.gov/TeamGreen.  The public can also comment on the plan via the same link by October 16. Members of the public can contact Patrick Curran for locations of physical copies of the plan, using the information below.
