The Albany County Department of Health announced the launch of the "Move Your Way Albany County" campaign, a community-wide initiative designed to encourage residents to meet the recommended weekly amount of physical activity of 150 minutes of aerobic exercise and 2 days of muscle strengthening exercise. This campaign is part of a national effort led by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to promote the Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans.

This campaign is specifically targeting residents ages 25-60 who may be contemplating starting physical activity but are unsure how to begin. The " Move Your Way Albany County " campaign is tailored to inspire adults to embrace physical activity as a part of their everyday routine. By highlighting simple, enjoyable ways to move, the campaign seeks to break down physical and mental barriers to fitness and demonstrate how physical activity can fit into any lifestyle.

Whether it’s parking further away from the store, adding squats or lunges to regular chores, or dancing in your living room, there are countless ways to move your way to better health. This campaign is about meeting people where they are and showing them how small changes can make a big difference.

“While we all know that physical activity is the foundation of good health, there are an array of everyday challenges that can prevent you from prioritizing fitness. This campaign will focus on removing these barriers, encouraging residents regardless of age, ability, or schedule, to find fitness opportunities that work for them,” said Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy.

“Physical activity doesn’t have to be hard or time-consuming to make a difference,” said Albany County Department of Health Interim Commissioner Maribeth Miller. “Our goal is to help people see that every bit counts and to provide the tools and encouragement they need to get moving.”

Through community events, educational resources, and local partnerships this program will make physical activity accessible and inclusive for everyone. Regular physical activity provides countless benefits, including reducing the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease and diabetes, improving mental health, and boosting energy levels. Yet, only about 23% of adults in the U.S. meet recommended guidelines for aerobic and muscle-strengthening activities.
