Albany County Women’s Legislative Caucus, Legislature, Executive’s Office Highlight Women Educating & Inspiring Generations during Women’s History Month Event
ALBANY, NY – The Albany County Women’s Legislative Caucus, the full Albany County Legislature, and the Albany County Executive’s Office, proudly hosted its annual celebration of Women’s History Month at the Albany County Office Building today.
Dozens of influential women from across the Capital Region came together to explore this year’s theme, “Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations.”
Former judge on New York State's Court of Appeals Leslie Stein was given a Lifetime Achievement Award as part of the festivities to recognize a career dedicated to the law and legal education.
Albany County Deputy Chairwoman Wanda Willingham was also given a Lifetime Achievement Award to honor her decades of public service in the county Legislature.
Albany County Crime Victim & Sexual Violence Center Director Amanda Wingle was recognized with an Award of Excellence for her advocacy and compassion for women experiencing domestic and sexual violence.
Beyond the awards, a panel discussion explored the nuances, challenges, and triumphs of women in education, the law, entertainment, immigration, and leadership.

Albany County Legislature Chairwoman Joanne Cunningham said: “As the first woman appointed to Chair the Legislature and as part of a team of strong women in the Chair’s Office, I was honored, humbled, and proud today. The insight that each of these panelists shared was inspiring and I am going to keep their words in my mind and heart as this Legislature continues to lead the way in protecting women’s rights, standing up for women’s healthcare needs, and ensuring women’s equality.”
Albany County Legislature Deputy Chairwoman Wanda Willingham said: “This was a powerful day. It isn’t the start, and it is certainly not the end, of the work that we need to commit to women here in Albany County, but this was a good day. I am honored to not only receive an award, but to also stand alongside all of the women who joined us today. Each one has tenacity, grit, and drive ingrained in them to keep pushing themselves and everyone around them into creating a better tomorrow.”
Albany County Legislature Democratic Majority Leader Dennis Feeney said: “In Albany County, we don't just recognize women's history. We commit to shaping a future where women's equality isn't up for debate. It's more important than ever to lead by example and defend women's rights on every level. I am proud to stand with my Democratic colleagues as we continue to ensure women's voices are heard, their rights are protected, and their contributions are recognized.”
