Devaughn Hall Sentenced 10 to 14 Years for Stealing Jewelry and Packages

Post Date:03/28/2025 3:35 pm

Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced today that a 32-year-old Cohoes man who was convicted of two separate burglaries in a jury trial is heading to state prison for his crimes.

Devaughn Hall was sentenced by the Honorable Roger McDonough in Albany County Court on Wednesday to serve a term of eight years determinate followed by five years post-release supervision on the Burglary in the Second Degree charge, and an indeterminate sentence of two to six years on the Burglary in the Third Degree charge, to run consecutively.

The jury deliberated for less than an hour on Feb. 5 when they returned a guilty verdict after hearing from Albany Police and Hall’s girlfriend. The victim had returned home to her Dana Avenue apartment on Dec. 19, 2023, after working an evening shift and discovered more than $50,000 worth of jewelry, handbags, and purses missing.

Police had little evidence to make an initial arrest but received a break in the case when Hall was spotted on a security camera stealing packages from a South Lake Avenue apartment building.

Police were able to generate a clear image of the man’s face from the video, which detailed distinct facial tattoos, red dreadlocks and facial hair, and face piercings. A fellow officer noted how the man looked strikingly similar to the suspect in the Dana Avenue larceny.

Police secured a search warrant for his Cohoes residence on Feb. 15, 2024, and discovered exact items the victim reported missing inside. Hall’s wife was even found to be wearing some of the more ornate jewelry reported stolen.

Despite Hall shaving off his distinctive dreadlocks and covering his facial tattoos with makeup prior to the trial, the jury convicted him on all counts.

Assistant District Attorneys Beven Nedumthakady and Joseph Brucato prosecuted the case.
