Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced today that a 21-year-old man has admitted guilt for his role in a 2024 shootout in Madison Park.
Cheick Diarra, of the Bronx, pleaded guilty in front of the Honorable William Little Thursday to one count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree. He will be sentenced to six and a half years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision on July 16.
Albany Police were called to the park at the corner of Madison Avenue and Ontario Street at around 4 a.m. on Oct. 19, 2024, and located a male suffering from a gunshot wound to his abdomen.
He was treated on scene by emergency medical personnel and transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital. Diarra admitted he was involved in a verbal dispute with another individual he didn’t know, and when that man pulled a handgun from his waist, the two began shooting at each other.
Police are still investigating the incident and looking for the other shooter.
Assistant District Attorney Stephen Lydon of the Major Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.
