Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced today that a 30-year-old Albany man has been indicted for possessing an illegal firearm and cocaine.
Russell Gibson was arraigned in front of the Honorable William Little on an indictment that charges him with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Third Degree With Intent to Sell, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree.
On April 22, Albany Police executed a search warrant at an address on First Street in connection with a narcotics investigation. Police found a quantity of crack cocaine, a digital scale and paraphernalia consistent with drug distribution. Police also found a 9 mm ghost gun with a high capacity magazine loaded with 22 rounds.
Gibson pleaded not guilty on Monday and was remanded to the custody of Albany Correctional Facility. He faces up to 15 years in state prison if found guilty.
Assistant District Attorney Marissa Olsen of the Street Crimes Unit is prosecuting the case.
