Glenville Woman Sentenced in DWI Wrong-Way Crash

Post Date:05/13/2025 3:30 pm

Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced today that the woman who drove drunk and crashed into another vehicle while driving in the opposite lane on I-90 has been sentenced.

Alexandria McCumber, 29, was sentenced by the Honorable William Little on Tuesday after pleading guilty to Vehicular Assault in the Second Degree - Operating a Motor Vehicle While Impaired and Causing Injury.

She will serve one-and-a-third to four years in state prison.

On Oct. 12, 2024, New York State Police responded to reports of a wrong-way driver operating northbound in the southbound lanes of I-87 in Albany. Troopers patrolled the area in an attempt to locate the vehicle and a short time later discovered a two-car crash on I-90 eastbound just west of Exit 24.

McCumber’s SUV crashed into a BMW, and both McCumber and the victim had to be extricated and rushed to Albany Medical Center for emergency surgeries. The victim sustained critical injuries consisting of a broken femur, liver lacerations, 13 broken ribs, an L-5 fracture, right cheek fracture, and a collapsed lung. The driver suffered pulmonary contusions and a torn aorta.

A passenger from the victim's vehicle was also transported with non-life-threatening injuries and was later discharged.

The victim’s wife read an impact statement before sentencing on Tuesday, describing how their family’s lives have been dramatically altered since the crash.

“The morning of Oct. 12 divided our lives into before and after,” she said. “Before, (he) was a dedicated provider, an involved father and my partner in every sense. After, he became a man consumed by physical pain and emotional torment, forced to rebuild himself from broken pieces.”

Assistant District Attorney and Bureau Chief of the Vehicular Crimes Unit Collin D’Arcy prosecuted the case.
