Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy announced today with County Department of Health Commissioner Dr. Elizabeth Whalen that as of this morning, there are now 1,747 confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Albany County to date, an increase of 10 in the last 24 hours. Additionally, there are now 769 people under mandatory quarantine and 6 people under precautionary quarantine. The five-day average for new daily positives is now 16.4. So far, 4,614 individuals have completed quarantine, with 1,363 of them having tested positive and recovered. That brings the county’s recovery rate to 78.01%.

There have been no new deaths overnight, keeping the county’s death toll at 112. There have also been no new hospitalizations since yesterday’s briefing. There are currently 21 individuals hospitalized, down from 25. That brings the hospitalization rate down to 1.2% from 1.43% yesterday. There is still currently one person in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU), unchanged since yesterday’s briefing.

County Executive McCoy thanked all essential workers on the front lines including our staff at Shaker Place. Before the Governor issued an executive order mandating staff be tested, we had already been extremely aggressive with testing of residents and staff at Shaker Place. We continue to test workers twice a week. He announced that all residents at Shaker Place that were COVID-19 positive have recovered. There are no positive COVID-19 residents at Shaker Place. Caring for our seniors at Shaker Place is one of the most important things we do as a county government and the County Executive thanked everyone who works there for treating residents with compassion, respect and dignity, and above all, caring for them like family.

In response to the ongoing civil unrest across the Capital Region and the nation after the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, the County Executive announced that the Albany County Interfaith Coalition will be holding a Healing Moment service today at 5pm at the Moses Statue in Washington Park in Albany. Members of clergy, community leaders and elected officials will pray for tolerance, respect and unity.

“Four years ago, when our country was gripped by racial injustice, the deterioration of police community relations and protests sparked by police brutality, we brought together our Interfaith Coalition for a healing moment. Once again, now more than ever, we need to come together as a community to denounce injustice in all forms, and recommit ourselves to peaceful demonstrations that can lead to change for the greater good of our society. I encourage everyone to join us so we can continue to move Albany County forward,” said County Executive McCoy.

During the briefing, the County Executive took time to recognize June as Gay Pride Month and the diversity of Albany County, having participated in the flag ceremony at Albany City Hall yesterday. The original organizers picked this month to honor the Stonewall uprising in June 1969 in New York City, which helped lead the modern gay rights movement.

County Executive McCoy continues to highlight the latest testing site in Albany County at Priority 1 Urgent Care that is now also providing antibody testing, located in Hamilton Square at 2080 Western Avenue in Guilderland. The partnership was made possible by Albany County supplying the facility with critical personal protective equipment for the staff and supplemental test kits. Testing will be reimbursed by an individual’s health insurance, and will be done by appointments only after patients come in to be screened for expanded CDC symptoms. Priority 1 is also now doing antibody testing. To schedule an appointment, you can call (518) 867-8040.

County Executive McCoy also encouraged those who are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms to register for the drive-thru community testing site at Rite Aid, 1863 Central Avenue in Colonie. Testing is free for those who are eligible based on CDC guidelines and are at least 18 years old. It’s available between 9am and 5pm, seven days a week by appointment only. Registration is now available at www.riteaid.com. Tests will be conducted from within an individual’s car with self-swab nasal tests and with the help of a pharmacist.

For those experiencing stress, anxiety or depression while confined to their homes for extended periods of time, the Albany County COVID-19 Mental Health Support Line is available seven days a week from 8am to 8pm at (518) 269-6634. Anyone experiencing a psychiatric emergency should still call the Albany County Mobile Crisis Team at (518) 549–6500. The 24-hour sexual assault hotline number is (518) 447-7716.
