Albany Man Pleads Guilty to Possessing Stolen Gun

Post Date:05/22/2025 4:25 pm

Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced today that a 49-year-old man has pleaded guilty to having an illegal firearm in his vehicle.

Stephen Johnson pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree Thursday in front of the Honorable Roger McDonough.

On Dec. 9, 2024, Colonie Police were conducting a patrol at the Albany Airport Inn at 200 Wolf Road just after 1 a.m. when they noticed a vehicle blocking a handicapped parking space occupied by Johnson.

An investigation revealed a small quantity of narcotics in the vehicle and a gun under the seat where Johnson had been sitting. Further police work determined the Glock 22 .40 caliber was loaded with eight rounds and had been stolen during a 2017 burglary at New York Shooter Supply.

Johnson will be sentenced on July 25 to serve five years in state prison followed by three years of post-release supervision.

Assistant District Attorney Stephen Lydon of the Major Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.
