Albany Woman Pleads Guilty to Manslaughter for Running Over Neighbor

Post Date:05/16/2025 3:00 pm

Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced today that a woman who purposely targeted an acquaintance with her vehicle on Halloween in 2024 and killed him has pleaded guilty for her actions.

Brittany Hawkins, 35, pleaded guilty in front of the Honorable Andra Ackerman Friday to one count of Manslaughter in the First Degree. She will face 25 years in state prison followed by five years of post-release supervision when she is sentenced on July 16.

Around 8:30 a.m. on Oct. 31, 2024, Albany Police responded to the Upper Sky Line Apartments and found Daquan Phillips, 28, suffering serious injuries from being struck by a vehicle. An investigation revealed that Hawkins had been arguing with Phillips in the moments before she spun her vehicle around near the intersection of Lark Drive and Manning Boulevard and slammed into the man, crashing into an apartment building in the aftermath.

Phillips was rushed to Albany Medical Center but died from his injuries the next day.

Assistant District Attorneys Collin D’Arcy and Elizabeth Jektyan are prosecuting the case.
