Cohoes Man Sentenced For Terrifying Attack on Ex-Girlfriend

Post Date:05/20/2025 2:30 pm

Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced today that a 39-year-old convicted felon will be heading back to state prison for terrorizing his ex-girlfriend.

The Honorable Andra Ackerman sentenced Marc Malinowski on Tuesday to serve six years in state prison followed by five years of post-release supervision for Attempted Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree.

On Aug. 4, 2024, Albany Police responded to Central Avenue and Quail Street just after 11 a.m. for reports of a man threatening a woman with a gun. On scene, they found a woman bleeding from a deep head laceration. The couple’s 2-year-old child was in the back seat but was unharmed.

Malinowski had exited the victim’s vehicle by the time police arrived and made his way to a bus stop on Central Avenue. He fled on foot as officers approached, but was taken into custody after a brief chase and found to be in possession of a loaded, illegal handgun.

Police learned that the man arrived at his ex-girlfriend’s home in Watervliet earlier that morning and ordered her at gunpoint to drive him to Albany. When they made it to Albany, he then ordered her to drive to Cohoes, only to then demand that she drive back to Albany. Malinowski threatened the victim with the gun on I-787, at one point placing it against her head and screaming, “I will (expletive) shoot you.” He later punched her in the head and mouth with a closed fist.

Malinowski has been arrested at least 10 times dating back to 2003 and served time in state prison for rape.

Assistant District Attorney Jacob Sheingold of the Special Victims Unit prosecuted the case.
