Post Date:07/03/2025 1:57 pm

Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced today that a Colonie couple has been formally charged for possessing a loaded gun, hallucinogenic mushrooms, and more than 300 pounds of marijuana.

Byron Brown, 45, and Rena Brown, 42, were arraigned on a four-count indictment in front of the Honorable Rodger McDonough that charges them each with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of Cannabis in the First Degree, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Fifth Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree.

On Feb. 10, Parole Officers from the NYS Department of Corrections and Community Supervision conducted a compliance visit at the Brown residence on Bunker Lane to check on Byron Brown, a parolee.

With the help of Colonie Police, officers executed a search warrant and located a Glock 33 semi-automatic handgun loaded with eight rounds of .357 ammunition in the magazine, more than 25 grams of Psilocybin psychedelic mushrooms, and bags of marijuana totaling more than 300 pounds.

Both Browns pleaded not guilty in Albany County Court. Rena Brown was released on $75,000 bond, and Byron Brown was remanded to the custody of the Albany County Correctional Facility.

Assistant District Attorney Marissa Olsen of the Street Crimes Bureau is prosecuting the case.

ALL DEFENDANTS ARE PRESUMED INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE.
