Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced today that the 15-year-old who police believe shot and killed a 17-year-old in the July 4 post-fireworks melee in downtown Albany has now been charged with murder.
The teen, who is considered a juvenile offender, was arraigned on a superseding indictment Friday in front of the Honorable Andra Ackerman that upgraded his charges from Attempted Murder in the Second Degree to Murder in the Second Degree.
Attorney Steven Sharp entered a not guilty plea into the record and the teen was remanded to the custody of the Capital District Juvenile Secure Detention Facility.
Chief Assistant District Attorney Joseph Meany, Assistant District Attorney Collin D’Arcy and Assistant District Attorney Marissa Olsen are prosecuting the case.
ALL DEFENDANTS ARE PRESUMED INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE.
