Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced today that a 24-year-old man who attacked and robbed two men outside the Walmart on Washington Avenue Extension is heading to state prison.
Angel Huertas-Lugo was sentenced by the Honorable Andra Ackerman to serve seven years in state prison followed by three years of post-release supervision after pleading guilty to Attempted Robbery in the Second Degree.
On April 10, Huertas-Lugo and Benjamin Velazquez approached two victims in the store parking lot, threatened them with a handgun, stole their groceries and fled the scene.
Huertas-Lugo is also facing charges in Rensselaer County for a shots-fired incident later in April. The case against Velazquez is still pending.
Assistant District Attorney Stephen Lydon of the Major Crimes Unit prosecuted the case.
