Albany Man Indicted on Gun and Drug Charges

Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced today that a 33-year-old Albany man has been formally charged for having an illegal gun inside his residence.

Kavon Lucas was arraigned on a two-count indictment on Wednesday in front of the Honorable Andra Ackerman charging him with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree.

On Sept. 16 at around 6 p.m., detectives from the Albany Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Unit executed a search warrant at Lucas’ residence on Columbia Street near North Pearl Street. During the search warrant, which was related to an ongoing investigation, APD recovered a Smith and Wesson 9mm pistol loaded with 10 rounds of live ammunition in the magazine and a quantity of fentanyl.

Five other individuals who were inside the residence at the time of the search were also taken into custody and charged with drug offenses.

Lucas pleaded not guilty and was remanded without bail to the custody of the Albany County Correctional Facility.

Assistant District Attorney Marissa Olsen of the Street Crimes Unit is prosecuting the case.

ALL DEFENDANTS ARE PRESUMED INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE.
