Albany Man Pleads Guilty In South Pearl Street Robbery
Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced today that a 24-year-old Albany man is heading to state prison for threatening and robbing a man.
Freddie Black pleaded guilty in front of the Honorable Thomas Marcelle to Attempted Robbery in the Second Degree for an incident that occurred on Aug. 12 at around 11:30 a.m.
On that date, Black approached a man at the bus stop in the area of South Pearl Street and Morton Avenue, pinned the victim's neck with his arm and told him to empty his pockets. Black then threatened to have a co-defendant attack the victim if he did not comply.
Black stole a number of items from the victim, including a cell phone and bus pass, before fleeing the scene. Albany Police detectives later arrested him after IDing him through video surveillance in the area. During a search of his property they recovered the stolen cell phone.
Black, who is being held at Albany County Correctional Facility, will face a five-year prison term followed by five years of post-release supervision when he is sentenced on Jan. 14.
Assistant District Attorney Beven Nedumthakady of the Major Crimes Unit is prosecuting the case.
