Statement from County Executive McCoy on Unanimous Passage of 2026 Budget by County Legislature

Post Date:12/08/2025 8:20 pm

“Tonight’s vote affirms what we set out to do from day one: deliver a responsible budget that enhances services our residents count on while navigating one of the most difficult fiscal landscapes we’ve seen in years. Even with federal cuts on the horizon and inflationary pressures on costs, we found ways to consolidate, innovate, and stretch every taxpayer dollar without compromising our commitment to families, seniors, veterans, and small businesses. This, paired with economic development initiatives across the county, has improved property values and broadened the tax base, allowing us to steadily reduce the effective tax rate for the 12th consecutive year. The full impact of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (H.R. 1) on New York State is not yet fully known, but we remain in a strong financial position to face these challenges.

I’m grateful to my colleagues in the Legislature for recognizing the importance of staying disciplined and focused on the long-term health and quality of life of Albany County. Additionally, I want to extend my gratitude to Chairwoman Joanne Cunningham, Deputy Chairwoman Wanda Willingham, and Majority Leader Dennis Feeney for their leadership. Together, we will continue to offer the best services at one of the lowest tax rates in the state.”
