Man Awaiting Trial For Shootout With Troy Police Pleads Guilty to Gun Possession

Post Date:12/04/2025 12:00 pm

Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced today that a 40-year-old Albany man who sparked a shootout with Troy Police has pleaded guilty for possessing three illegal firearms in Albany.

Michael Broadie pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree in front of the Honorable William Little for an incident that happened on Sept. 6, 2024.

Just before 4 p.m. that day, a witness spotted Broadie inside an apartment on Madison Avenue drop a handgun on the floor and then quickly retrieve it. The witness left the residence and flagged down an Albany Police officer who was riding his bicycle nearby.

Broadie exited the residence carrying a shopping bag, loose clothes items and a backpack and proceeded to walk a few doors down the street to a relative’s apartment. Police searched the second residence and found that Broadie had stashed his belongings at the top of the staircase in a common area hallway.

There, they found a Beretta 9mm pistol loaded with eight live rounds under a pile of the man’s clothes. A further search yielded two more guns and 2 grams of cocaine.

Broadie, who was set to go to trial next week in Albany County on the gun charges, is also facing a trial in Rensselaer County next year for a Dec. 2, 2024 incident where he fired at Troy Police officers. He was charged with Attempted Murder in the First Degree – Police Officer, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree.

Broadie was remanded and will be housed at the Rensselaer County Jail while he awaits his sentencing scheduled for Feb. 9, 2026, when he will receive a 10-year determinate state prison term followed by five years of post-release supervision.

Assistant District Attorney and Bureau Chief of the Street Crimes Unit Bryanne Brucato is prosecuting the case.
