Local Attorney Sentenced to Prison For Contempt and Assault Charges

Post Date:12/05/2025 4:00 pm

Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced today that an Albany trial attorney is heading to state prison for two incidents involving his ex-wife and ex-girlfriend.

Luke Malamood, 40, was sentenced by the Honorable William Little to serve four years in state prison after he pleaded guilty to Assault in the Second Degree and Criminal Contempt in the Second Degree.

The charges stem from a number of incidents in 2024 and 2025 when Malamood was arrested and charged with a host of crimes. Over several days in July and August 2024, Malamood violated an Albany County Family Court order of protection in the town of Colonie when he emailed, called and harassed his ex-wife.

On April 24, Malamood was arrested for an incident at his apartment in Albany when he struck his ex-girlfriend with a broom and stole her cell phone.

Joseph Brucato, Assistant District Attorney and Bureau Chief of the Major Crimes Unit, read the victims’ impact statements before sentencing, and both women detailed how Malamood’s alcoholism sparked his violent behavior and caused them to be fearful.

Malamood spoke and apologized to his victims and his children and told Judge Little he was planning to spend his time in prison dedicating himself to being a better person.
