Albany County Legislature Chairwoman Joanne Cunningham said: “After Thanksgiving, the December holiday, and even the celebration of the New Year, it is so important to realize that uncertainty and need don’t come and go during just a single season. I hope we can continue to support our neighbors, especially with the ongoing challenges that are being created at the federal level.”
Albany County Legislature Deputy Chairwoman Wanda Willingham said: “Coming out of the season of giving, I am hopeful we can find more within our hearts to continue to support each other. Even if it is small, as Dr. King said, ‘No work is insignificant. All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence.’”
Albany County Legislature Democratic Majority Leader Dennis Feeney said: “Food insecurity is a year-round challenge for many Albany County residents, and addressing it requires broad community participation. The Legislative Black Caucus’ annual food drive provides an opportunity for residents to help strengthen our response to hunger and support partners like the Regional Food Bank in serving families across Albany County.”
Albany County Chair of the Legislative Black Caucus Carolyn McLaughlin said: “The Legislative Black Caucus’ annual food drive is one of our most important traditions. The final months of 2025 were challenging for many families, as the holiday season and temporary government shutdowns placed additional strain on communities across our county, underscoring the need for action. This food drive is one way we can continue showing up for those who are underserved and in need. As Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., the namesake of this drive, once said, ‘Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, What are you doing for others?’ As the drive continues through February 20, I urge everyone to answer that question through action.”
