The Albany County Legislature approved Thursday, Dec. 5, a resolution to amend the employee rules and regulations to include a provision to prevent nepotism from occurring.

According to the resolution, no County employee, either individually or as a member of a board, may participate in any decision specifically to appoint, hire, promote,
discipline or discharge a relative for any position with the County.

“Individuals who work for Albany County need to know that we don’t condone this type of practice. By codifying this provision in our rules and regulations ensures that there is no confusion in the future,” Legislature Chair Andrew Joyce said. “We can now be much more efficient in addressing particular situations should they arise.”
