Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced today that a 29-year-old Schenectady man who had an illegal firearm in his glove box during a traffic stop is heading to state prison.
Kenneth Gray was sentenced by the Honorable Andra Ackerman to serve seven years in state prison followed by five years of post-release supervision after pleading guilty to Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree and Driving While Intoxicated.
On March 9, 2022, Colonie Police conducted a traffic stop after they observed Gray driving erratically on Central Avenue. Gray, who was slurring his speech and had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath, was arrested for DWI. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a Taurus 9mm handgun loaded with 13 rounds in the magazine inside the glove box. Gray did not have a permit to legally possess the firearm.
Assistant District Attorney Ryan Carty, Bureau Chief of the Local Courts and Training Unit, prosecuted the case.
