Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced today that a 26-year-old man who was arrested for having a loaded handgun and then assaulted an inmate at the local jail has admitted his guilt to both crimes.

Jahsiah Daniels pleaded guilty to Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree and Attempted Assault in the First Degree in front of the Honorable Roger McDonough Friday morning.

On Feb. 18, 2025, Daniels possessed a Glock 43X 9mm handgun loaded with 11 rounds when he entered a convenience store on New Scotland Avenue.

Then, on Aug. 12, 2025, Daniels assaulted a fellow inmate at the Albany County Correctional Facility, knocking out two of his teeth.

Daniels will be sentenced as a predicate felon on July 24, when he is expected to receive two concurrent eight-year state prison sentences followed by five years of post-release supervision.

Assistant District Attorney Alizabeth Volkman of the Special Victims Unit is prosecuting the case.
