Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced today that a 47-year-old Albany man who threatened workers after stealing two pairs of shoes and clothing from JC Penny was found guilty following a jury trial.

Jamie Jacobs was found guilty of two counts of Robbery in the First Degree and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree Wednesday after a three-day trial in front of the Honorable Roger McDonough.

Jacobs was arrested by Guilderland Police on Sept. 9, 2025, outside Crossgates Mall after JC Penny employees witnessed the defendant place two pairs of shoes and some clothing in a bag and exit the store. Two loss prevention specialists attempted to stop Jacobs just minutes after the robbery, but he pulled a knife on the men and threatened to stab them.

During the trial, Assistant District Attorneys Taylor Cupp and Nick Pittari, both of the Major Crimes Unit, called on six witnesses, including store employees and police. The jury was shown video from Crossgates Mall and JC Penny, which showed the theft and confrontation outside the store.

Jacobs, who has five felony convictions, was remanded to the custody of the Albany County Correctional Facility and will be sentenced on Aug. 14. He could face up to 25 years to life in state prison.
