Albany County District Attorney Lee C. Kindlon announced today that a 48-year-old Albany man has admitted to robbing a convenient store.

A-Shawn Chapman pleaded guilty to Robbery in the First Degree in front of the Honorable Andra Ackerman.

On Sept. 15, 2025, Chapman entered a store on South Pearl Street just before 10 p.m. and began arguing with the clerk. Chapman left the area but returned a short time later and pulled out a gun, demanding money from the victim.

Chapman went behind the counter, took $500 from the register and then exited the store. Albany Police identified Chapman and arrested him on March 20.

Chapman was remanded to the custody of the Albany County Correctional Facility and will be sentenced on Sept. 8 to serve eight and half years in state prison followed by five years of post-release supervision.

Assistant District Attorney and Major Crimes Bureau Chief Joe Brucato prosecuted the case.
