Albany County's Shaker Place Rehabilitation and Nursing Center Executive Director Larry Slatky is being inducted into the American College of Health Care Administrators (ACHCA) 2020 Hall of Fame class for his contributions to the success of the college.

The ACHCA Hall of Fame was created late last year to acknowledge people that have had a notable impact on the American College of Health Care Administrators. Slatky will be one of the Hall’s inaugural class. The award will formally be presented at the annual ACHCA Convocation in New Orleans in May.

“I congratulate Executive Director Slatky on this latest recognition of his hard work and dedication to seniors over his career,” said Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy.  “In partnership with Larry, we have been able not only to transform Shaker Place physically but we have improved our quality of care, programs and services.”

Albany County received the 2018 Bronze National Quality Award from the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL), and the 2019 Distinguished Service Award from the American College of Health Care Administrators.

“To receive this award from such a well-respected organization is a great honor to me, and I am pleased to represent Shaker Place,” said Executive Director Slatky. “Our seniors have worked hard, built families, and gave back to our communities, and they deserve to be properly cared for, and live in comfort. It is an honor to be recognized for my contribution in making that happen.”

This announcement comes as Shaker Place Rehabilitation and Nursing Center has been selected as one of sixty nursing homes in New York State to receive Telepsychiatry Services administered through the University of Rochester, provided by the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH). Telepsychiatry Services is a program created to give psychiatric consultations to residents at Shaker Place Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in a timely manner by using interactive telemedicine technology.

The program will offer residents a long-term care treatment team handling psychiatric disorders such as delirium and depression. The program will encourage communication among patients, providers, and a specialist to create the best plan, and it will create early intervention strategies for patients.

Shaker Place is undergoing an $80 million renovation which is anticipated to be completed this fall.
