County Executive McCoy Provides Update on COVID-19; Announces New Contingency Measures

Post Date:03/16/2020 12:09 pm

In case you missed it:

Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy today provided an update on the situation surrounding the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) alongside County Department of Health Commissioner Dr. Elizabeth Whalen and announced new contingency measures the county would be taking to stem the spread the virus.

There is now a current total of fifteen confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 in Albany County, with one individual remaining in the hospital receiving care. Additionally, at this time, there are 90 people under mandatory quarantine and 367 people under precautionary quarantine. In response, County Executive McCoy announced that the Department of Social Services will continue to work with clients, but mainly by phone. The new guidelines are posted on our website:

“As testing for COVID-19 continues to increase, we are seeing more and more positive cases in Albany County, across the region, the state and the country. We are now in a phase of community mitigation where we need to stop the spread from close contact between individuals in large gatherings,” said County Executive McCoy.

“Social distancing is a critical tool that will ultimately save lives, and I want to commend Governor Cuomo for his leadership in restricting the operations of businesses, including restaurants, gyms and movie theaters to ensure this virus is not being spread unnecessarily.”

If you are placed under precautionary quarantine, the County Health Department warns that it is absolutely essential that you abide by those guidelines and remain in your home to prevent the spread of this virus. If you do not, it can and will be changed to a mandatory quarantine that is legally binding.
