Albany County Crime Victim and Sexual Violence Center (CVSVC) is proud to partner with the Albany County Parks and Recreation Bureau to help prevent child abuse through the Athletes are Children First initiative.

Through this initiative, CVSVC will work with the Parks and Recreation Bureau to enhance the current successful summer sports programs through creating safer environments for Albany’s young athletes. Using evidence-based prevention principals, summer camp counselors and athletic coaches will be trained in recognizing and preventing child sexual abuse. Additionally, CVSVC will provide training and ongoing assistance to coaches to incorporate lessons regarding healthy and unhealthy relationships, identifying safe adults to talk to and supporting their peers into their coaching sessions.

We offer free trainings on recognizing and responding to child sexual abuse to coaches and athletic clubs not affiliated with Albany County’s Parks and Recreation Bureau.

For more information or to schedule a training, please call (518) 447-7100 and ask to speak with the Coordinator of Community Education.
