Stay safe in winter weather
- Watch the news or weather app for updates.
- Try to stay off the roads when it’s icy.
- Dress in layers and stay warm.
- Make an emergency kit with things you may need.
- Be ready if the power goes out.
- Keep your phone and backup battery charged.
- Get fuel if you use a generator.
- Heat your home safely.
- Walk like a penguin on ice and snow.
- Check on neighbors, friends, or family.
- Keep an emergency kit in your car.
Watch out for frostbite and hypothermia
How winter weather impacts your health
- Cold weather makes your heart work harder, which can cause heart problems.
- Breathing can be harder in the cold, especially for people with asthma.
- Snow and ice can cause car crashes and falls that hurt people.
Cold weather can also:
