COVID-19 Treatment
Residents who test positive for COVID-19 can now seek new treatments that help prevent severe disease.
COVID-19 treatments work best when you receive them as soon as possible after becoming sick, so it's important to get tested and talk to your doctor right away to find the treatment that is best for you.
There is currently one type of treatment option available, antivirals:
- When given soon after a positive COVID-19 diagnosis, antivirals help fight infection and shorten recovery time.
- Antivirals can be administered either via intravenous (IV) drip or as an oral tablet or capsule.
- If you test positive for COVID-19, antiviral medications may help you feel better faster and prevent serious illness. Talk to your doctor or health care provider to see if treatment is right for you. To learn more, visit: Information for Providers | NYSDOH
All treatments require a prescription. You should talk to your provider to see what is right for you.
- If you test positive for COVID-19 and do not have a regular health care provider, you can find a treatment provider with the U.S. Dept of Health & Human Services " Find COVID-19 Medications" webpage.
- The Treatment Locator (hhs.gov) can also help you find a location that offers testing and treatment or a pharmacy where you can fill your prescription.
- For additional information regarding COVID-19 treatment, visit the CDC's "Types of COVID-19 Treatments" webpage.
