What is Lead Poisoning?

Lead is a harmful metal that can cause serious, and potentially irreversible health problems, especially for children under six years old.

  • When lead builds up in the body over time, it can impact a child’s growth, behavior, and learning ability.
  • Homes built before 1978 may contain lead-based paint, a major source of exposure.
  • Pregnant individuals and their developing babies are also vulnerable to lead's harmful effects.

The good news is that lead poisoning is preventable.
