Summer Youth Employment Program
The Albany County Summer Youth Employment Program has been created to provide opportunities for professional development to Albany County residents. The program is designed for high school and undergraduate students between the ages of seventeen (17) and twenty-one (21).
Albany County's initiative is to create flexible work opportunities that will be beneficial to all candidates. Individuals will receive on-the-job training and the skills necessary to compete for a variety of available positions.
Applications Accepted: Wednesday, April 1, 2026 – Thursday, April 30, 2026
Hours: Vary by department and experience, maximum 20 hours per week
Hourly Rate:$16.00
Requirements:
- The applicant must be between the ages of 17 and 21 and a resident of Albany County.
- If under 18 years of age, applicants must furnish working papers. Working papers serve as official employment certificate:
- 17-year-olds (in school): Working papers are green.
- 17-year-olds (out of school): Working papers are peach.

- New applicants or returning students must submit an application to be considered for employment in 2026.
- Family members of current County employees are not excluded. However, if hired they will not be placed in the same workplace as an immediate family member.
- All applicants will be interviewed by Elena Cenko, Director of Intergovernmental and Legislative Affairs.
- Any applicant who fails to report for a confirmed interview (without reasonable cause) will not be considered for a position.
- All potential applicants must attend a (paid) mandatory orientation/training session on Friday, June 5, 2026, for Non-High School and Monday, July 6, 2026, for High School Students. Failure to attend this session (without reasonable cause) will result in automatic removal from the Summer Youth Program. Applicants must attend Workforce Conduct and Sexual Harassment Training during orientation.
- Our program now offers first-hand experience of how the County Legislature operates. Interns are required to attend a legislative session to gain insight into how local government functions and understand the impact of local governance.

- Interviews will take place Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 3:00pm ONLY.
